Civilization 6 Gathering Storm is the second expansion for the popular strategy game Civilization 6, introducing a range of new gameplay features that transform your experience. This expansion focuses heavily on natural phenomena, incorporating dynamic natural disasters such as floods, volcanic eruptions, storms, droughts, and climate change that directly impact your cities and environment. These disasters can damage improvements and buildings but also leave behind fertile lands ready for resettlement, adding a nuanced balance between challenge and opportunity. The expansion adds eight new civilizations alongside updated versions of classic ones, many of which have abilities synergizing with the new environmental factors. For example, Egypt benefits from floods, while Russia gains advantages from harsh snowstorms. Strategic resources are limited and consumed by power plants, encouraging players to shift towards renewable energy sources like wind and solar power during the late game. The return of the World Congress and the Diplomacy Victory condition adds a fresh diplomatic layer, where you earn diplomacy points by passing resolutions and managing diplomatic favor through treaties such as peace agreements. Key features include: - Natural disasters including volcanic eruptions, floods, storms, droughts, and effects from climate change - Finite strategic resources consumed by power plants and reliance on renewable energy in later eras - The reintroduction of the World Congress and a revamped Diplomacy Victory condition - Nine new leaders and eight new civilizations adapted to the changing world Natural disasters appear throughout all eras but become manipulable starting in the Industrial Era as your factories and power plants contribute to CO2 emissions, accelerating climate change impacts. Players must research technologies like flood barriers and champion clean energy to mitigate environmental damage. Civilization 6 Gathering Storm deepens the strategic complexity and brings a new level of challenge and immersion.
