How to activate a Steam key

  1. Sign in:Open Steam and log in to the account for which the key is intended.
  2. Open activation:In the Steam client choose Games Activate a product on Steam…. Alternatively, open the product activation page in the browser.
  3. Redeem key:Enter your product key and follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Install:After successful activation, the game appears in your library. When it becomes available for download, you can install it.

How to redeem Steam wallet credit

  1. Sign in:Log in to your Steam account in the browser.
  2. Open redemption page:Visit the official page Redeem a Steam gift card or wallet code.
  3. Enter code:Input your wallet code and follow the instructions. If Steam asks for address details, please complete them.
  4. Check balance:After successful redemption, the amount will be added to your Steam wallet balance.

Watch the currency:Redemption is limited to the currency of your Steam wallet. Before purchase, make sure the code matches your account.

Frequently asked questions

My code isn't working – what now?

Check your input and ensure you are using the correct redemption page: game keys and wallet codes are different products. Also, note any region restrictions for the offer. If the key is already used or invalid, contact the retailer with your purchase receipt. For wallet code support, see Steam Support.

Can I play immediately after activation?

Not before download and installation. For pre-orders, you may need to wait for release. DLCs sometimes require the main game to be installed.

Is a Steam gift the same as a key?
